Do I need a building permit or local authority authorisation to install a soundproof fence on my terrace?
This depends on the municipality, the height of the fence and the configuration of your establishment. As a general rule, a fence under 1.80 m on an existing commercial terrace does not require a building permit in France, but may require a prior works declaration. For terraces in protected areas (ABF — Architectes des Bâtiments de France) or on public roads, additional constraints apply. In Belgium, the rules vary by municipality. What height of acoustic panel is recommended for a restaurant terrace?

Can I install noise barrier panels on an existing terrace without demolishing everything?
Yes, in the vast majority of cases. Our panels can be fixed to steel posts anchored in the ground, timber posts, or placed on an existing masonry low wall. If your terrace already has a handrail, a structure or a low wall, we adapt the solution to this existing base to minimise works and installation costs. Can a noise barrier panel also serve as a separation between adjacent terraces?
Absolutely — it is actually one of the most common uses in the restaurant industry. Two adjacent terraces create mutual sound interference: the music, conversations and service noise of one disturb the other. An acoustic panel positioned at the boundary of the two spaces reduces this interference in both directions simultaneously.
